Effectiveness Of The Leadership Role And Performance Of...
The purpose of this report is to critically analyse the effectiveness of the leadership role and performance of John F Kennedy (from this point forward, known as JFK). To review JFKââ¬â¢s leadership style and his behaviour during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. Let us first look at a definition of leadership. According to Kruse (2013) ââ¬Å"Leadership is a process of social influence, which maximises the efforts of others, towards the achievement of a goalâ⬠. In todayââ¬â¢s world, leadership is all the more important as there is an ever changing environment with in the business world, and to gain the most out of this changing environment, a leader needs to be flexible and quick witted to ensure that they are maximising the potential of a situation. For this report, we have used the framework developed by Robbins (1997 as cited by DuBrin 2013) which analyses the effectiveness of leadership by looking at the Leader Characteristics, Leader Behaviour and Style, Group Member Characteristics, Internal and External Environment which all lead to Leadership Effectiveness. JFK was the 35th President of the United States of America (from this point on to be USA). He was in office from January 1931 until he was assassinated in November 1963. JFK was both the youngest President of the USA to be elected into office and the youngest President of the USA to die (Friedel Sidey).
